I purchased this to help tap some holes in some steel rectangular tubing using my drill press. Unfortunately the spring tension wasn't quite enough and the tap was just stripping the threads it was making. The steel isn't anything special, and I was about an inch from the weld, so I don't know what to make of that.Either way, I was able to apply additional pressure with the drill press arm, and the threads ultimately came out great. It still made taping the holes a lot easier than doing it by hand.
